Dr. Hans von Känel honored with the Italian
"Sapio Industry Award"
PD Dr. Hans von Känel and his colleague Prof. Leonida Miglio from University Milano Bicocca were honored with the "Sapio Industry Award", which was presented to them on 18th of February 2014 by Andrea Dossi, vice president of the Sapio group in the Italian Senate in Rome.
Von Känel and Miglio were awarded for the discovery of a way to integrate different semiconductors on structured Silicon, by 3D hetero-epitaxy. This advancement paves the way towards applications like cost-effective solar cells for satellites, highly efficient X-ray detectors for medical applications, and also offers new possibilities for power-electronic devices for automotive industry and for renewable energy production.
